New Year, New Job
New Year, New Job The Christmas festivities are fast approaching and the New Year is upon us. To some, this means a time to make some New Years Resolutions. Maybe youre going to make an effort to go to the gym more or take up a new hob Here are some tips to help you utilise your time off during the festive period to find a job in the new year! Take time out to job search It may be the last thing you feel like doing when youre enjoying some well deserved time off. But setting aside time during your break for your job search will help you feel more prepared in the new year. However, this doesnt mean spending every waking hour scrolling through job sites. But instead, try putting a little time aside in the mornings or evenings to look for a job and make gradual progress instead of only searching for a job one day out of the whole festive period. This way it will be more effective and likely that you will see a more varied amount of job openings. Prepare your CV Its time to update your CV! When you are at work, it can often be difficult to find the time to make necessary amendments on your CV but with a few extra days off around Christmas now is your chance to make the changes. Even if you feel your CV is up to scratch, have someone else look at it, as they may notice something you hadnt alone. Organise your job search If you choose to organise your job search, the whole process will become more effective and efficient. To do this, write down alist of things you need to do to get a specific role. For example, this may include making a note of roles you are interested in pursuing and companies youd like to work for. From here you can then write down the steps you plan on taking to help you gain an interview. These steps may include, adjusting your CV, researching a company or brushing up on some interview skills. All of which will help you feel more organised and prepared within your job search. Dont leave everything until the last minute Youve just finished work, university or college for the Christmas break and looking for a new job can be the last thing on your mind! Instead, you choose to save the job search for the new year. However the more you put it off the harder it will be to start. Plus if you leave it until the last minute you may feel rushed to submit job applications and therefore not put your full effort into it. If you manage your time well, you can ensure your CV is up to date and ready to submit if you see a great opportunity over Christmas. Good luck to all those job hunting over the festive period and we wish you all a Merry Christmas a Happy New Year!
